DETAILS: Put this on your list of can’t-miss restaurants in Portland, Maine, and see what an excellent izakaya is all about: a place to sit back, sip on sake, and share delicious Japanese dishes with friends. Enjoy a 2-oz pour of rare nama (unpasteurized sake) perfectly paired with a rotating small plate all Portland Wine Week-long. Namazake is aromatic, fresh, and lively — a perfect match for the savory cuisine of Izakaya Minato.
Brewed using a similar method to beer, Sake is made of water, rice, yeast and koji, a special type of culture traditional to Japanese fermentation. Most sake is typically pasteurized twice, so this is an exclusive opportunity to experience a highly limited nama, which translates to “raw” or “fresh,” that is almost never available in Maine.
PRICE: $13 for a 2oz pour of sake and a small paired dish (tax and gratuity not included)
